Much More Than a Business Manager

Michelle Bricka has every reason to boast about her impact on the Adkerson School of Accountancy and its students, but she’s too modest – the idea would never occur to her. As the School’s Business Manager, the roles she fills are many and wide-ranging.

Among them are overseeing the internship program, scholarships and class scheduling; ensuring MSU rules and guidelines are followed to run the School effectively and managing departmental budgets. No detail is overlooked, even assuring each faculty and staff member has his or her favorite K-cup pod for that vital morning caffeine fix. She’s a woman who knows how to get things done.

“After being in this position for so long, general knowledge of how things work across the MSU campus is probably most valuable,” she says in describing her efficacy.

But it is also the relationships she has built that make her invaluable to the School, and relationships take more than longevity to build. Anyone who has worked with Bricka – be it student, colleague, alumnus, employer or supporter – trusts her as someone who delivers results and cares deeply about ASAC and its student charges.

In turn, Bricka feels richly rewarded by her work.

“Everyone from students and staff to faculty and alumni have made such an impact on my life,” she shares. “Over the years, all these people have come to be a part of my MSU family. Being able to watch some individuals grow from undergraduate students into members of our Advisory Council has truly been a blessing. The faculty and staff are so much fun to be around, and we all have a desire to make ASAC the best that it can be. We work together very well and enjoy hanging out.”

Bricka came to Mississippi State when her husband, Dr. Mark Bricka, joined the Bagley College of Engineering as a Professor of Chemical Engineering.

“Most of my life before starting work at MSU was devoted to raising my girls,” she shares, adding, “I taught four-year-old preschool for many years as my kids were growing up.”

Bricka has a BS in accounting from McNeese State University, where she transferred after three years at the University of Alabama when Mark went to work in St. Charles, LA. The pair’s now-grown daughters are Shelby, Mallory and Mykela; they also have two granddaughters, Keeling, age nine, and Harper, age four.

When not working, Bricka spends time with immediate family and among her MSU family.

“I love sports, especially football, so my hobby is attending MSU football games!”

Bricka began working at ASAC in 2006 and has never looked back.

“I have had the best experience in the College of Business and the School of Accountancy,” she states. “I could not imagine working anywhere else on campus.”
