The CCH Public Accounting Report’s 37th Annual Professors Survey ranks Mississippi State University’s undergraduate accounting program #6 (#13 in 2017) and graduate accounting program #7 (#10 in 2017) for schools with 16 or fewer full-time accounting faculty.  Also, both programs are ranked in the top 25 for the South region.

 

 

School namesake and alumnus Richard Adkerson and Director Dr. Shawn Mauldin cheered on the Dawgs during the 2017 LSU football game.

Undergraduate student Fatima Lucia Bracamonte and graduate student Katelyn Eaton were awarded scholarships from the Mississippi Society of CPAs (MSCPA).
Doctoral alumnus Dr. Daryl Burckel was named the seventh President of McNeese State University in Louisiana.
Academic Coordinator Krystle Dixon is often on the road, promoting ASAC to outstanding high school students. Here, she recruits for the School at the Tennessee Future Business Leaders of America Leadership Conference in Chattanooga.

Student Kyanna Hollin has received an academic scholarship from the Public Company Accounting Oversight Board for 2018-2019 academic year. She will receive a scholarship in the amount of $10,000 for the upcoming academic year.

The Memphis Adkerson School of Accountancy Alumni held an event June 28. It was sponsored by David Hopkins of KPMG Memphis and Dan Learned with International Paper.

The 2017 Accounting Convocation brought alumnus Joe Lyons to campus as the featured speaker. Shown at left with Dr. Mark Lehman, Lyons is the Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of Barr Brands International. He has over 20 years of financial and operations experience managing businesses from start-ups to billion-dollar global enterprises in service and manufacturing industries, including extensive international operations in China, Hong Kong, Europe and Japan. At Barr Brands, he is responsible for all global finance, accounting, IT and legal and risk management functions, and he oversees the company’s strategic planning and merger and acquisition activity.
ASAC director Dr. Shawn Mauldin serves AACSB International – which accredits collegiate schools of business and accounting – as Chair of its Accounting Accreditation Committee and as a member of its Committee on Accreditation Policy as well as the new Accounting Accreditation Policy Committee.  He is also a board member and Immediate Past President of MSCPA’s North Central Chapter.

Mike McIlwain, a 1987 accounting graduate, was selected as the College of Business’ 2017 Alumni Fellow. He is President and CEO of PSAV, an international event technology services company in the hotel, resort and conference center industry. Prior to joining PSAV in 2009, he was an accountant with KPMG and Arthur Andersen before becoming CFO of Motor Coach Industries. McIlwain, shown here at left with ASAC Director Dr. Shawn Mauldin, serves on the ASAC Advisory Council and was recognized as one of the College’s Top 100 graduates during its 2015 Centennial Celebration.
Alumnus and ASAC Advisory Council member Brooks Mosley was elected Chairman of the Mississippi Council on Economic Education's Board of Directors.  He is President of Ballew Wealth Management.
 

 

MSU accounting faculty, alumni and friends caught up with one another at the Mississippi Society of CPAs annual conference in Destin, FL.

Faculty member Angela Pannell serves on the Mississippi State Board of Public Accountancy. She is also a member of the National Association of State Boards of Accountancy’s Education Committee.
Faculty member Dr. John Rigsby is an ad hoc reviewer for the Journal of Managerial Issues.
Accounting Students Jesse Scott (center) and Adam Mowdy are interning with Freeport-McMoRan Inc. this summer. Here, they pose with alumnus Don Whitmire, the company’s Vice President and Controller as well as a member of the ASAC Advisory Council.
Alumnus John Scott, a partner in tax services at HORNE, LLP, was elected to the firm’s board of directors.
Faculty member Dr. Brad Trinkle serves on the Editorial Review Board for the Journal of Information Systems.
