News from the Richard C. Adkerson School of Accountancy
Greetings from the Director
It’s official! I am happy to report that the Adkerson School of Accountancy’s AACSB accounting accreditation was extended for another five years. This is a rigorous review process that ensures the School is delivering on its mission and has the commitment, resources and faculty to provide top-quality accounting programs. Accounting accreditation sends a clear signal that the School is committed to strategic management, thought leadership, leaner success and curriculum currency. There are only 190 universities worldwide to earn AACSB accounting accreditation. This places the School in an elite group of accounting programs.
During the fall semester, the School engaged in a strategic planning process that culminated with a professionally facilitated retreat. This multi-stakeholder process resulted in a new strategic plan that provided several major goals. The process developed a clearly articulated vision, mission and a five-year plan to accomplish the goals. I am confident that the new strategic plan provides a realistic roadmap for the School’s future success. Specific details about the strategic plan are included in this issue.
The new online MTax and MPA programs are up and running. There were 22 students who joined the inaugural class. The feedback from students has been positive. The School is at the forefront of re-envisioning how graduate education is delivered. We are delivering an experience for the online students that is as close to the on-campus experience as possible. I continue to believe that the online delivery of these programs is the right path forward and is in line with the mission of the University, the College of Business and the School.
It was another successful recruiting season for internships and full-time positions. Historically, the School has had a high placement rate for accounting students. This year has been no exception. In fact, the demand for our accounting students has exceeded the supply this year. As such, recruiting students is front and center in our new strategic plan. With the high demand for accounting students, we are optimistic that we can attract more students to our accounting programs and continue to meet the needs of employers.
